VARKALA


VARKALA is the only place in
southern Kerala where one can find a cliff adjacent to Arabian sea.This tertiary sedimentary formation cliffs are a
unique geoligical monument. As declared by
the geoligical survey of India.There are
numerous water spouts and spas on the the sides of these cliff
VARKALA is famous for its 3,500 year old Janardanaswami Tempil,which is an important Vaishnavite shrine in India and is referred to as Dakshina Kashi .The temple is located near the
Papanasam beach which is considered to have a holi water which wash away sins, and is also an important natural Ayurvedic treatment center.The temple has an ancient bell removed from a shipwreck,donated by the captain of Dutch vessel which sank near varkala with out any casualities.VARKALA is a well known tourist destination in south India. Papanasam near varkala is a well known rock cliff,the structre is the third of this kind in Asia .varkala has a high literacy rate of above 95%.VARKALA has a very good infrastructre and a well developed transportation,hospitality ,education & communication .The town has excelent communication facilities,an average rated water supply system,fire system,police station and very good roads .VARKALA is the second most important railway station after ThiruvananthapuramAccording to the 2001 census of India ,Varkala has a population of 42,273 .Mail constitute 49% & female 51% .VARKALA has an average literacy rate of above 95% higher than the national average of 63%.11% of the population is under age of 6 year.
